So dizzy I can only fall

Then I came back from where I'd been.
My room, it looked the same -
But there was nothing left between
The Nameless and the Name.

All busy in the sunlight
The flecks did float and dance,
And I was tumbled up with them
In formless circumstance.

Small obsessions

One of my small obsessions is with showers. I easily take a couple in a day, even if I'm not even leaving my apartment. In the summer I think it's rare that I don't. Slightly restless? A bit uncomfortable? Get up and grab a snack? No. I use showers how I imagine other people will eat snacks.

Today I took a shower an hour after I woke up, and then a couple of hours later I was still in my bathrobe and ended up taking another shower instead of getting dressed.

Of course afterwards I still didn't get dressed and when I finally did I put on shorts, a t-shirt and running shoes and went running for a bit. I just got back and of course now it's time for another shower.

A month or two ago I had a week and a half where I went running two days out of three. At the same time I consistently went to sleep around midnight and got up between seven and nine every morning. You have no idea how unlike me that is. I wasn't really productive in the mornings though. Most days I'd not figure out to do anything useful until around 10. Instead I'd just look confused at the clock and wonder what the numbers meant. Of course it didn't stay that way. One night I was so into whatever I was working on, that I forgot to go to sleep until dawn and all was back to normal. It was nice while it lasted though. Maybe I'll try again some day.

Now I try running for a bit once a week and I seem to mostly be keeping it up. I've lost a bunch of weight, I think. I should buy a scale and find out. My only measure is that not using a belt with my regular size jeans is entirely impossible. Is it because of my marginal amount of exercise? Doubtful.

It's also unlikely that it's because I started being a vegetarian again. I had been eating meat for almost ten years and for no particular reason late last year I decided that was enough and stopped again. At first I'd eat fish and white meat occasionally, but now I don't think I can make myself eat chicken. Maybe I still eat seafood.

The last weeks I've had a need-only-a-small-meal-a-day period after a long time of the opposite ("must eat every couple of hours"). Maybe that's why I'm shrinking. Hmmn. When will they come out with an ethernet upgrade for the body so I can login and check it out?

Anyway, off to the shower...

Panther release date

Apple announced that panther is coming out on October 24th. It's very cool. It's not at all the minor upgrade that a .2 to .3 change sounds like. I'm not sure I should admit that I found out about the release date while in the Apple Store in Santa Monica, mmmn. And I'll never admit to actually posting this from there. Ooops. The people rebuilding the patio thing outside my apartment are using cement for it this time and wanted me to either go out and not come back for 4 hours or not go out for 4 hours. "So I can't step in the wet cement?" "No!"

Todays most amusing activity: Add quarters to parking meters about to expire. Yeah, I know - not the best day ever.

Viridiana just went through all sorts of trouble to figure out her MT password so she could post that I am posting something. And this is healthy how again? mmmmnnnn...

California Recall election

Don't forget to vote today if you are so enabled. The Sacramento Bee is reporting that recall polls are differing widely so your vote just might actually mean something!

Too tired to write anything sensible now, but in brief according to me you should vote:

  • No to proposition 53 (which will tie money to construction projects and thus make the politicians unable to juggle the budget from year to year -- no wonder they can't balance it with stuff like this). In my ignorance I didn't know about this, but Viridiana just explained it to me, of course it's entirely likely I got it wrong... mmnn).
  • No to proposition 54 (Racial Privacy Initiative). At first it might sound like this would give less discrimination, but it's the other way around. Please say no.
  • No to the recall. It's just wrong that anyone with a couple of million dollars can make this kind of chaos.
  • Vote on someone. With the current polls I'd probably put a not very enthusiastic vote for Bustamante. If the Arnold-Risk™ (RealVideo) wasn't looming over us I'd suggest voting for Camejo as his values fits much better with mine.

In any case, it'll be exciting to see how it goes.

If Davis is recalled, when will the next election be? (assuming we won't get yet another recall).

think tank coverEntirely unrelated, I was listening a bit to Henry Rollin's Think Tank again tonight. So much fun, so much energy. :-) I don't think I've listened to any of his spoken words for a couple of years, but listening to it again I memorize all too much of it... mmmmn, maybe I shouldn't have had it (and the other albums) on repeat so much in the past. :^)

Haircut

Got a haircut earlier today! The second in about a year (the other one was just before OSCON).

Viridiana stopped being amused by my "woooh, my hair is long enough that I can eat it" trick quite a while ago. And I must admit it was getting a bit old... :-) I regret not taking time to take a picture in the last week. I imagine I won't end up with that long hair again anytime soon if ever. Oh well, maybe I'll just have to let it grow long again to get a photo. ;-)

So I went to get it cut, and like Duncan I just asked for short and spiky. I got it cut by the same person who reorganized the chaos that was my hair in July. When I said I wanted it short this time she helpfully pointed out that it'd be a lot different.

So you want me to foo bar something something.

Sure that sounds great. I just want it back to short and spiky'ish. You know better what to do than I ever would.

Alright!

And now my ears have been cold all day.

iSync my stickies

stickyiSync is great. I use it very happily to sync phone numbers to my mobile phone and to keep bookmarks, calendar and the address book the same on the 'book and the mac at home.

I usually don't keep my todo list in iCal. It just doesn't quite work for me. Stickies are much better for me. But they are not synchronized. The alternative the stickies for me is to just keep the list as a text file on one of the Linux or FreeBSD boxes, but those tend to "get lost". So what I do is maintain the list in a sticky or three and then "sync" those once in a while with a text file... No, it doesn't work very well.

It would be so very nice if the stickies could be automatically synced between systems... Maybe some day.
