Video Codec Shootout - The QuickTime implementation of MPEG-4 didn't do well at all, to put it mildly. They compressed mpeg2 to indio 5.1 to $test_format, so unless you are pirating DVD movies I'm not sure how valid the test is. The MPEG-4 codec that comes with Compressor is also supposed to be much better. More discussion over at Arstechnica and Los Angeles Final Cut Pro User Group.
